MSIS performs IV&V on InSight spacecraft
MSIS is performing Independent Verification and Validation on the new Mars Lander, InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport).
Designed as a terrestrial planet explorer, InSight is tasked to burrow deep into the surface of Mars, detecting the fingerprints of the processes of terrestrial planet formation. InSight will also measure Marsí vital signs: seismic activity, heat flow, core size, and whether the planet has a liquid or a solid core.
This mission seeks to provide insight into how the rocky planets of the inner solar system (including Earth) were shaped more than four billion years ago.
