MSIS with TASC team begins IV&V work on $133.9 million NASA contract

On May 11, 2012 Mountain State Information Systems, Inc. (MSIS) began work on a five-year contract to perform highly specialized system software services for NASA at its Independent Verification & Validation Facility in Fairmont, West Virginia. MSIS will serve on a team of 15 partner companies led by TASC, Inc., which was awarded the contract last November. MSIS strategists assisted the TASC team in developing the winning proposal.

"We're very excited about this contract because we've been working with the NASA IV&V facility performing software IV&V since 1997," said MSIS President Paul Garnett. NASA awarded the contract to TASC in November of 2011, and a protest filed shortly thereafter by a competitor was overturned early this April. The new contract officially began this May. The cost-plus-award-fee contract has a potential value of $133.9 million, with base and option years fully exercised. The work includes IV&V, software assurance, research and development and technical quality monitoring.

Garnett believes MSIS' strong history with NASA will provide invaluable continuity to the NASA IV&V facility, as MSIS personnel have been a part of the facility's growth and development over the past decade and a half. MSIS brings a unique historical perspective of the spaceflight organization from an independent contractor's point of view, poising MSIS to effectively identify prospective employees who are a good fit for NASA's mission and values, and whose skills suit them for success in the IV&V environment.

MSIS is now accepting qualified applicants to augment its current staff serving this contract. Applicants who have a background in computer science or experience with NASA systems are encouraged to apply. "We thank NASA for the trust they've placed in us, and we look forward to many more years of serving NASA and our country," said Garnett.
